How The Brake Master Function?
The braking system consist of the hydraulic circuit operating on all four wheels. The most latest cars are designed with this hydraulic system is the brake master cylinder. The master cylinder function is to create pressure in the fluid circuit of the braking system. Is causing the brake caliper and the wheel cylinder pistons to move towards the brake pads disc and drums to stop your car.
Brake Master Cylinder Components.
The master cylinder is divided into two sections. Inside the master there are two pistons, the primary piston controls the braking circuit for the front wheels, and the secondary piston for the rear wheels. The fluid reservoir is mounted on the top of the master cylinder indicating two levels of the brake fluid ( MIN – MAX ), the reservoir cap contain brake level switch. The orifices is for the fluid pipes to submit the fluid to the wheels.
How To Remove Your Brake Master Cylinder ?
It is mounted on the brake booster unit. There are two nuts holding it on the top of the mounting studs. Before removing it here a few measures you should take. Do not spill brake fluid on your car painted surface, cover your fender as most brake master are fitted very near them. In the event of brake fluids being spilled on the paint work clean it off immediately with lots of cold water. If you master cylinder is full try to take out some of the brake fluid. On the side there are tube nuts. Remove the nuts and close the orifices immeditely with your fingers over the holes and plug the fluid pipes. Thus preventing spillage.
Dismantling You Brake Master Cylinder
There are two types of master cylinders. The ones that can repaired by using a rebuilt kit and the ones that can’t as they are complete units. To know which one your car is using by checking if your cars master cylinder has a piston stopper ring. I f you cars master cylinder has one, you remove the piston stopper and the primary piston assembly. There are two fluid seals. On the front of the primary piston is a piston cup, and primary return spring held by a screw. You must loosen to release the primary return spring to change the fluid seal. The secondary piston is blocked at the bottom of the cylinder body by stopper bolt, loos and remove the bolt and then take out the secondary piston, if is stuck just hit the master cylinder on the top something soft and the secondary piston start sliding down to come out from the master cylinder. Use your rebuilt kit and change the seals on the both pistons.
Assembly Your Master Cylinder
This Operation Consist Of The Following
Finish changing the seals, you put back the primary piston first inside the master cylinder body and locked with the stopper bolt. The pistons return spring must face the inside of your master cylinder and same operation for the other piston. Lock the piston with the stopper ring and then you are done . Fit back your master cylinder on the brake master, connect the tube nut to your master. Full the fluid reservoir and bleed all system from air. When your car brake pedal get hard the braking system is ready for your safety and your family. I have for you right here page for fault diagnosis tips, check page brake diagnosis.
